Landslide and Debris Flow (Mudslide)
Landslide is the sliding of a large mass of rocks and soil down the side of a mountain or cliff. Landslides constitute a serious menace, because it is a widespread phenomenon, occurring in all states and U.S. territories. Landslides may be slow or fast, small or large. The causes of landslides can be different: fires, volcanic eruptions, storms, earthquakes, vibrations from machinery and traffic, earthwork. Slope material that becomes saturated with water may develop into a debris flow or a mud flow. They develop as a result of fast water accumulation underground during an abundant rain or snow melting, turning ground into a stream of mud.
There are several ways to prevent landslides. If you live in the landslide-threatened area, try to avoid watering the slopes. If there are any large rocks near the building remove it. Also you may plant vegetation on the slope. It may help to strengthen the soil.
But you can’t be sure that you will not suffer from landslide. You must prepare in advance and get everything necessary to reduce the risk of suffering from the disaster. Besides the common survival kits it is necessary to have
survival food for landslide protection. Also don’t forget about your pets. You must have
pet first aid kits.
